Question : OPENING OF WINE SHOPS



(a) the details of guidelines relating to opening of wine shops in the country;

(b) whether the Union Government monitors the implementation of such guidelines by State;

(c) if so, the details of cases of violation of such guidelines come to the notice of the Government or reported during each of the last three and the current year, State- wise/zone-wise alongwith the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(d) the measures proposed to be taken to ensure compliance of the guidelines with particular reference to distance of such shops from educational institutions and residential colonies?

(a) As per the hntry 51 of the List IE of Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India, collection of Excise duty on alcoholic liquor for human consumption is a State subject. Therefore, the Central Government does not issue any guidelines relating to opening of wine shops in the country.

(b),(c)and(d): Does not arise in view of reply to (a) above.
