Question : BACKWARD DISTRICTS



(a) whether the Government have identified and selected certain most backward districts for their development in the country;

(b) if so, the amount of special Central Assistance allocated for each of these backward districts so far;

(c) the works likely to be undertaken in these backward districts;

(d) whether the Government propose to revise the list of these districts; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

(a) Yes, Sir. 25 most backward districts have been identified under the Development and Reform Facility (Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana) for implementation during the current year on pilot basis.

(b) Each of the backward districts so identified has been allocated Rs. 15 crores during the current financial year.

(c) The State Governments is responsible for preparing the district-wise plans for the works to be taken up in these districts. The additionality is to be used for schemes which fulfill the main objectives of the Development and Reform Facility to address the problems of low agricultural productivity, unemployment and to fill critical gaps in physical and social infrastructure.

(d) &(e) No, Sir. There is no proposal to revise the list of districts for pilot phase.
