(a) the State-wise, total number of Sports schools/colleges functioning in the country;
(b) whether the Government has received any requests from various State Governments to open more such
schools/ colleges in their respective States;
(c) if so, the State-wise details thereof; and
(d) the action taken by the Government thereon along with the amount likely to be spent thereon?

FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI JITENDRA SINGH)
(a) Under the administrative control of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, there are three institutes
viz., Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior with a North Eastern Regional Centre
(NERC) at Guwahati, Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Thiruvanthapuram and Netaji Subhash
National Institute of Sports, Patiala alongwith its courses being offered at Bangalore and Kolkata Centres
of Sports Authority of India (SAI). The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports does not maintain data about
the State Government - run institutions imparting physical and sports education in the country.
(b) Sports is a state subject. As per available records, no such request has been received by the Ministry
of Youth Affairs & Sports from State Governments.
(c) & (d): Questions do not arise in view of (b) above.
