(a) whether the Government have made estimate of lass incurred by the Universities and colleges in the coastal areas of Orissa due to cyclone;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the UGC has released any funds for the purpose of restoration works;
(d) if so, the details thereof;
(e) if not, the reasons therefore; and
(f) the remedial efforts proposed to be made in this regard?

(a) to (f) : According to the informatio0n furnished by
UGC, the Commission had received requests from Utkal
University, Berhampur University and the Government of
Orissa for providing financial assistance as ‘Cyclone
Relief’ to meet rehabilitation and damage repair programme.
The matter was considered by the Commission at its meeting
held on 28th March 2000 and the UGC agreed to provide an
assistance of Rs. 4.58 crores as ‘Cyclone Relief’ to three
Universities and eighteen colleges in Orissa. The entire
amount of Rs. 4.58 crores has been released by the UGC to
these Universities and Colleges during 1999-2000. A
statement indicating the details of grant released by the
UGC to these Universities and Colleges in this regard is
enclosed as Annexure.
