Question : FIRE EXTINGUISHERS



(a) the total number of fire extinguishers installed for safety under the Northern Railways and the North Eastern Railways along with the dates on which these were tested including the number of fire extinguishers found functional and out of order during testing; and

(b) the number of training programmes conducted for imparting training to operate these fire extinguishers in the North Eastern Railways and the number of officials trained during the last three years?

(a) A total of 4598 numbers of fire extinguishers have been installed in primary maintenance based coaching trains on various divisions over Northern Railway and these fire extinguishers were tested from November, 2013 to February, 2014. During these tests, 212 fire extinguishers were found out of order/defective. So far as North Eastern Railway is concerned, a total 4547 fire extinguishers are available. These fire extinguishers are being tested at regular interval of time and the last test was conducted on 10.01.2014. During the course of last testing, 94 fire extinguishers were found out of order.

(b) During last three years, 837 training programmes were conducted over North Eastern Railway during which 10778 staff were given training to operate fire extinguishers.
