Question : IMPLEMENTATION OF ANTI-PIRACY LAWS



(a) whether the Government have reviewed the implementation of existing anti-piracy laws in the country;

(b) if so, the details of the deficiencies observed;

(c) the details of proposals received or under consideration to make anti-piracy laws more effective; and

(d) the details of the present status of the reforms?

(a) & (b): The Government has constituted a Copyright Enforcement Advisory Council (CEAC) with a view to regularly review the implementation of the Copyright Act including the provisions regarding anti-piracy. Several other measures taken by the Central Government also include persuading the State Governments for
(i) the setting up of Special Cells in State Governments for enforcement of Copyright Laws
(ii) appointment of nodal officers in the States for facilitating proper coordination between the industry organizations and enforcement agencies;
(iii) holding of seminar/workshops etc. for sensitising the public about Copyright Laws and dissemination of copyright information to all concerned in the country.


(c) & (d): The Core Group constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development for reviewing the Copyright Act in the light of technological and other on-going developments also aims at making anti-piracy laws more effective.
