Question : Opening of Handloom Centres


(a) the number of handloom centres running in the country at present, State/UT-wise ;

(b) whether the Government has opened/proposes to open any handloom centres in the country including Maharashtra ;

(c) if so, the details thereof along with their locations, State-wise ; and

(d) the amount allocated for the said purpose to said centres during each of the last three years and the current year ?

(a): To render technical assistance to the handloom industry by way of research, service & training for its development, Office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles has set up 28 Weavers Service Centres (WSCs). State/UT-wise their locations are detailed at Annexure-I.

(b) & (c): In pursuance of budget speech 2012-13, three new WSCs one each in the states of Jharkhand, Nagaland and Mizoram, have been set up during 12th Plan. Since two WSCs are already functioning from Mumbai, Nagpur in the state of Maharashtra, setting up of another Centre is not under the consideration of Government.

(d): A statement is given below showing amount allocated & expenditure incurred, for setting of cited three WSCs, during last three years & current year, as under:-
