(a) whether there is any proposal to establish Seismological observatories in the Karnataka State;

(b) if so, the number of such observatories functioning at present;

(c) the places where seismological observatories are proposed to be established; and

(a), (b) & (c) : Sir, a Committee was set up by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India in 2001 to examine the adequacy of seismological observatories and other related aspects in the State of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka. The committee inter-alia recommended to establish three seismological observatories in Karnataka State at Bellary, Mysore and Gulbarga. The relevant recommendations have been conveyed to the state Government. However, no formal proposal has been received from govt. of Karnataka. At present four seismological observatories are functional at various locations in the State of Karnataka namely Mangalore, Gauribidanur, Kolar Gold Fields and Dharwar.
