(a)&(b): The present renewable power generation capacity of 18,321 MW as on 31.10.2010
corresponds to a share of about 11% in the total installed capacity and 4.4% in the
electricity mix. It is envisaged that total renewable power generation capacity will
increase to about 72,400 MW by 2022, corresponding to a contribution of around 15.9% in the
then likely total installed capacity of 4,55,000 MW, with about 6.4% contribution to the
electricity mix.
(c)&(d): The Electricity Act 2003 and subsequent guidelines under National Tariff
Policy 2006 have made it obligatory upon SERCs to specify minimum percentages for purchase of
renewable power (Renewable Purchase Obligations) taking into account availability of the
renewable energy resources in the region and impact on retail tariffs. The Central Electricity
Regulatory Commission (CERC) has been mandated to regulate the electricity sector in line with
the provisions of the Act/ exercise necessary powers to enforce the same.
