Question : Railway University

(a) the present status of the railway university proposed to be set up in the country;

(b) the details of the funds earmarked for the purpose;

(c) the details of the expenditure likely to be incurred thereon along with the resources from where it is proposed to be raised;

(d) whether some foreign countries have offered assistance for this purpose;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Railways in this regard; and

(f) the time-frame fixed, if any, for setting up the university?

(a) Ministry of Railways have decided to establish one Railway University by upgrading National Academy of Indian Railways at Vadodara and by incorporating the existing Centralised Training Institutes of Indian Railways as Constituent Schools of Study.

(b) A token outlay of ? 10 lakhs has been provided in the Railway Budget 2016-17 for this purpose.

(c) A capital cost of ? 861 crores is envisaged for the University. However, details of expenditure likely to be incurred and resources for the proposed University have not been worked out at this stage.

(d) No, Madam.

(e) Does not arise.

(f) No time frame has been fixed.
