Question : FISHING HARBOURS IN TAMIL NADU



(a) the number of fishing harbours functioning in Tamil Nadu at present, location-wise;

(b) whether any proposal is under consideration of the Government to construct more fishing harbours in the State due to its huge coastal area and vast scope for development of fisheries;

(c) if so, the details and latest position thereof, location-wise;

(d) the funds allocated for the purpose so far; and

(e) the amount of central assistance, if any, extended for the development of the said harbours?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI TASLIMUDDIN)

(a): Five fishing harbours namely, Chennai in Chennai District, Tuticorin in Tuticorin District, Mallipatnam in Thanjavur District, Pazhayar in Nagapattinam District and Chinnamuttom in Kanyakumari District are functioning at present in Tamil Nadu.

(b)&(c): Yes Sir. The Government of Tamil Nadu indicated their intention to have additional fishing harbours constructed at nine locations in the State coast. Details of the proposals location-wise along with present status are annexed.

(d)&(e): The Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, so far, has provided financial assistance to the tune of about Rs.28 crores for development of the functioning fishing harbours in Tamil Nadu.

3 Pazhayar Nagapattinam The Government of Tamil Nadu is to confirm availability Stage-II of(i) land, (ii) Environmental clearance and (iii) adequate budget provision in the State Budget to share 50% capital cost of the project.
4 Mallipattinam Thanjavur The Government Tamil Nadu is to convey acceptability of the Techno-Economic Feasibility Report prepared by the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries (CICEF), Bangalore together with confirmation on availability of land, environmental clearance and adequate budgetary provision in the State budget.
5 Thengapattinam Kanyakumari The Government of Tamil Nadu is to convey acceptability of the Techno-Economic Feasibility Report prepared by the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries (CICEF), Bangalore together with confirmation on availability of (i) land, (ii) environmental clearance and (iii) adequate budgetary provision in the State budget.
6 Chinnamuttom Kanyakumari The Government of Tamil Nadu is to formulate Stage-II Techno-Economic Feasibility Report after completion of necessary investigations.
7 Colachel Kanyakumari The Government of Tamil Nadu is yet to establish Techno-Economic Feasibility of the proposal.
8 Muttam Kanyakumari The Government of Tamil Nadu proposes to develop the fishing harbour under BOOT system.
9 Rajakkamag- Kanyakumari The Government of Tamil Nadu proposes to develop alamthurai the fishing harbour under BOOT system.
