Question : Development of Sports Infrastructure

(a) whether the Government of Telangana has requested the Union Government to sanction Rs. 200 crore for various developmental works related to sports and its infrastructure, if so, the details thereof and action taken on each issue;

(b) whether it has also been requested to set up a Cricket academy in each State, if so, the details thereof and action taken thereon; and

(c) whether the State Government has also requested the Union Government to link the works of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to sports and also to develop the grounds and stadiums in rural areas to help the sportspersons, if so, the details thereof and action taken thereon?

(a) This Ministry has not received proposals worth Rs. 200 crore for various developmental works related to sports and its infrastructure from the Government of Telangana. However, under Khelo India Scheme, proposals worth Rs. 168.01 crore have been received from various eligible entities from the State of Telangana. Proposals worth Rs. 19.50 crore have been sanctioned as per Annexure-I.

(b) As per information received from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), State/Union Territory wise list of cricket academies is at Annexure- II. BCCI being resource organization provides for promotion of sport of Cricket. This Ministry does not set up cricket academies.

(c) While no request from State/Union Territory Governments has been received in this Ministry for linking the works of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to sports, this Ministry is working with Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development to develop sports fields in rural areas from the funds made available to Gram Panchayats including under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to sports.
