RESERVES
(a): The total balance recoverable reserves of crude oil are about 756.766 million metric
tonne (MMT) as on 1.4.2011 of which 552.610 MMT are with ONGC, 81.160 MMT with OIL and 122.996
MMT with Pvt/JV companies. The state-wise and company-wise details of crude oil reserves are
annexed.
(b): Currently, hydrocarbon exploration is in progress in the Indian sedimentary basins,
which are: Andaman-Nicobar, AssamâArakan, Assam Shelf, Bengal, Cambay, Cauvery, Deccan
Syneclise, Ganga, Himalayan Foreland, Kerala-Konkan, Krishna-Godavari, Kutch, Mahanadi-North,
East Coast, Mumbai Offshore, Pranhita-Godavari, Rajasthan, Satpura - Rewa, Saurashtra, and
Vindhyan.
(c): In order to discover hydrocarbon in the sedimentary basins, companies are carrying out
gravity, magnetic, electro-magnetic, geochemical and seismic surveys in Indian sedimentary
basins.
(d) & (e): The strategic oil reserves of 5.33 MMT have been planned at 3 locations viz.,
Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Mangalore & Padur in Karnataka. The break-up
of strategic oil reserves capacity is as under:

In addition, feasibility study for about 12.5 MMT strategic oil reserves is in progress in the
states of Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa.
