(a) The following Science Cities have been set up by Ministry of Culture through National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an Autonomous Organisation under the Ministry of Culture.

In addition, Pushpa Gujral Science City at Kapurtala, Punjab and Gujarat Science City at Ahmedabad, Gujarat have been set up by Council of Pushpa Gujral Science City, Punjab and Gujarat Council of Science City, Gujarat respectively with financial assistance from the Ministry of Culture.
The proposals for setting up of a Science City at Guwahati (in Assam) and Patna (in Bihar) have also been approved.
(b) The Science Cities Scheme provides for setting up of Science Cities/Centres in all the states of the country subject to availability of funds for this purpose. States desirous of setting up a Science City/Centres under the Science Cities Scheme have to submit proposals as per norms of the Scheme.
List of Science Cities/Centres proposed to be built in the country is enclosed at Annexure I.
(c) Details of funds sanctioned, released and utilized to set up Science Centres/Cities during last 3 years and the current year are enclosed at Annexure II.
The Scheme does not specify any time limit for setting up of Science Cities/Science Centres in all States/union Territories. In case of approved projects, the time frame for completion of a Science City as per the Scheme is about 54 months (approx.) from the date of start of the project. In respect of a Science Centre, the required time frame is 27 months (approx.).
(d) and (e) Ministry of Culture has sanctioned a grant of Rs 9.00 crore as assistance under Phase I for the development of Science City at Ahmedabad and this amount has already been released.
With respect to the request of the Gujarat Govt. for Phase II of the same, Gujarat Govt. has been requested vide Ministry of Culture letter dated 05.09.2016 to submit the proposal in accordance with the revised norms for setting up of Science Cities/Centres which includes a new component for upgradation of a Science City. Response in the matter is still awaited from Govt. of Gujarat.
