Question : AIR CONCESSIONS TO SENIOR CITIZENS



(a) the facilities being extended to senior citizens with respect to their air travels, both at the airports and in the aircraft;

(b) the age being considered as senior citizens for both men and women;

(c) whether the Government propose to give relaxation in the age for both men and women above the age of sixty for considering as senior citizens; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): There is no category of senior citizens as far as airport facilities are concerned. However, certain facilities are like special lifts/wheel chair/special toilets have been provided at some of the airports for infirm/handicapped passengers. Senior citizens are given preference to board the flight before other passengers and are facilitated as requested for wheel chair/ambulift and special meals etc.


(b): The norm, as per the IATA for an individual to be considered as senior citizen is 60 years.


(c) and (d): No, Sir. Indian Airlines gives 50% discount on fare to those citizens who have completed 65 years of age (in case of women above 63 years of age) on the date of commencement of journey. As regards, Air India, they do not offer discount to senior citizens. However, Air India has competitive market fares for international and domestic travel which are also applicable to the senior citizens.
