Question : Toilets in Schools

(a) whether the Government has achieved the construction of at least one toilet in each
school in the country comprising primary, upper primary and secondary levels of
education;
(b) if so, the details of total number of toilets constructed so far and number of schools
covered, State-wise;
(c) the district-wise number of schools with defunct toilets along with the total number of
toilets in both Government and private categories in Andhra Pradesh as on February,
2020; and
(d) the number of toilets constructed, repaired and functional in Andhra Pradesh during the
last three years, year-wise and district-wise?

SHRI N. REDDEPPA REGARDING TOILETS IN SCHOOLS
(a) and (b) In response to the announcement made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 15
August, 2014, the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource
Development had launched Swachh Vidyalaya initiative to provide separate toilets for girls and
boys in all Government schools, within one year upto 15th August, 2015. Under the initiative,
construction/re-construction of 4,17,796 toilets was completed in 2,61,400 Government
elementary and secondary schools as reported by the States and UTs. State/UT-wise details are
given at Annexure-I.
(c) As per UDISE 2017-18, district-wise number of schools, number of schools with
functional toilets and dysfunctional toilets in Andhra Pradesh are given at Annexure-II.
(d) The district-wise numbers of toilets constructed in schools in Andhra Pradesh during the
last three years are given at Annexure-III.
