Question : SEX EDUCATION AT SECONDARY LEVEL



(a) Whether the Government have decided to introduce sex education at secondary level in schools;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which the said decision is likely to be implemented?

(a) to (c) : Under the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) supported National Population Education Programme, efforts are being made to introduce the Adolescence Education related matters in the School curriculum and teacher Education courses. In addition, the “National Curriculum Framework for School Education” released by the NCERT, recommends that in view of the importance of the knowledge of and activities related to the personal and community health, an awareness of HIV & AIDS should be given to adolescence in schools. It also recommends that students may also be acquainted with evils associated with promiscuity and child and drug abuse. Adolescence education and sex-education may also be provided in a suitable manner.
