Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)

(a) to (c): Health is a state subject and it is the responsibility of the State Government to ensure that unnecessary surgeries are not resorted to by the hospitals under their jurisdictions. However, as far as AIIMS, New Delhi and three Central Government Hospitals in Delhi namely, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi and Lady Hardinge Medical College and associated Hospitals are concerned, there is no report of unnecessary surgeries being performed on the patients. The Government has enacted a Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010 and also prepared standard treatment guidelines that have been uploaded on the website of Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act at www.clinicalestablishments.nic.in.
