Question : Generation of Atomic Energy



(a) whether the Government has taken/propose to take any steps in the field of generation of atomic energy in the country to keep pace with its growing demand for nuclear energy in recent times;

(b) if so, the details thereof during the last five years;

(c) whether the Government has fixed any target/ timeline in this direction; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR.JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) In the last five years, the Government has accorded administrative approval and financial sanction of 12 nuclear power plants totaling to a capacity of 9000 MW (KKNPP 5&6 andFleet Mode) to increase the nuclear power capacity.

(c)&(d) On progressive completion of the projects under construction (8700 MW) and accorded sanction (7000 MW), nuclear power capacity is expected to increase from the present 6780 MW to 22480 MW by 2031.
