Question : ACTIVITIES OF NAXALITES



(a) whether naxalities are targeting powerstations, irrigation projects and other vital installations;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/Union Territory wise;

(c) whether special power is given/ proposed to be given to para-military forces particularly C.R.P.F.;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether dalits and other weaker section of the society are coming under the influence of naxalites;

(f) if so, the details thereof; and

(g) the action taken by the Government to provide sophisticated weapons to the para-military forces and latest equipments and methods to tackle the situation?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI SRIPRAKASH JAISWAL)

(a) & (b): Naxalites have been observed to be targeting certain types of Government buildings and infrastructure pertaining to road and rail communications and, in some cases in recent months, power transmission facilities. Action is being taken continuously by the State Governments to minimize such possibilities and to strengthen related security arrangements.

(c) & (d): No, Sir. The Central Para Military Forces deployed in States to assist the State Police Forces work under the control of the concerned State Government.

(e) & (f): Specific details of section-wise profile of naxalite cadres and sympathisers are not maintained in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

(g): Law and order is a State subject. The Central Government is coordinating and supplementing the efforts and resources of the State Governments. 33 Battalions of Central Para Military Forces are currently deployed on anti-naxalite duties for assisting the State Police Forces. 29 India Reserve Battalions have been sanctioned for raising by different States. Under the Scheme for Modernization of State Police Forces, assistance for modern weaponry, latest communication equipment, mobility and other infrastructure is being provided. Security related expenditure is also being reimbursed by the Central Government. Assistance from the Defence Forces is provided to the States in the areas of equipment, training and rescue operations. Training needs of State Police Forces are also being supplemented through the Central Para Military Forces and the Bureau of Police Research & Development.
