Question : IT Raids on Medical Institutions


(a) whether the Government is aware of the Income Tax (IT) raids in medical institutions across the country, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the said IT raids was conducted on the advice of his Ministry, if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government has received any complaint about the collection of capitation fee by the medical colleges, if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government thereon?

(a) to (c) As informed by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), separate centralized database in respect of searches conducted on medical institutions is not maintained by the Income Tax Department (ITD). They have also informed that, searches conducted during current and last financial year in the cases of certain persons running medical institutions have led to detection of various issues of tax evasion.
Disclosure of information in respect of specific assessees is prohibited except as provided under section 138 of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
