NO. 193 BY SHRI LAXMAN TUDU AND SHRIMATI RAMA DEVI TO BE ANSWERED IN
LOK SABHA ON 06.12.2012 REGARDING RAILWAY PROJECTS
(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. During last three Railway Budgets i.e. 2010-11,
2011-12 & 2012-13, 29 new line projects covering a length of 2248 Km at
an anticipated cost of Rs. 20,946 Crores, 8 gauge conversion projects
covering a length of 1314 Km at an anticipated cost of Rs. 5106 Crores
and 98 doubling projects covering a length of 4393 Km at an anticipated
cost of Rs. 24,341 Crores have been taken up.
(c): Does not arise.
(d): Projects are progressing as per availability of resources. To
expedite completion of projects, a number of initiatives have been
taken to generate additional resources through non-budgetary measures
like funding by State Governments and other beneficiaries, execution
of projects through Rail Vikas Nigam Limited on Special Purpose Vehicle
basis etc. Besides, to reduce delays on account of land acquisition,
security issues and forestry clearances etc, meetings with State Officials
at various levels are held from time to time. Field units have been
empowered with further delegation of powers and the contract conditions
have been modified to bring efficiency in contract management.
