Question : Swachh Vidyalaya Programme

(a) whether the Government has reviewed the progress of the Swachh Vidyalaya Programme;

(b) if so, the details of current status of construction of toilets in all schools across various States;

(c) whether toilets are being constructed by States, PSUs, as well as some private sector entities and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether it is a fact that several States are already close to achieving the 100% target in this regard and if so, the names of such States; and

(e) the specific initiatives being taken by the Government to remove bottlenecks and achieve targets within the stipulated timeframe, in the implementation of the vision of "Swachh Vidyalaya" initiative?

(a) Yes Madam.

(b) As on date, about 2.86 lakh toilets have been constructed.

(c) Yes Madam. States and UTs, PSUs from 15 Central Ministries and more than 10 private sector entities are involved in construction of toilets in about 2.68 lakh schools.

(d) Yes Madam. States/UTs which have already achieved 100% are Andaman & Nicobar, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Kerala, Puducherry and Sikkim. States which are close to achieving the target are Gujarat and Karnataka.

(e) The Ministry has taken various steps to facilitate the construction of toilets within the timeframe. The progress is monitored on a continuous basis at the national level. Meetings and video conferences have been held with State Chief Secretaries, Education Secretaries, State Project Directors of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and also with Central Ministries and Central PSUs. In addition to this, 310 central observers have also been deputed to visit districts to review the progress of the Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative.
