Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI ADHIR RANJAN CHOWDHURY)

(a) & (b)Yes, Madam. Capacity Augmentation and improvement in Goods shed all over the country is an on - going activity. Proposals are examined based on operational requirement, commercial justification, technical feasibility and resource availability. The justification depends upon the traffic projections, availability of other goods sheds in close proximity and spare capacity available with them. 101 works for goods sheds improvement at a cost of Rs. 1124.23 Cr. are sanctioned and on-going all over Indian Railways.

(c) & (d) De-notification of a goods shed is an extreme and exceptional administrative action that is resorted to when the traffic offered drops to an abysmal level. Railways are sensitive and therefore, do not de-notify a goods shed only on account of multiple placement.

(e) No, Madam. There is no such proposal under consideration.

(f) Does not arise.
