Question : Multi-Modal Logistics and Transport Policy

(a) whether the Government is working towards formulating an integrated, multimodal logistics and transport policy and if so, the details along with the aims and objectives thereof;

(b) the time by which the said policy is likely to be announced and implemented;

(c) whether the Government is also planning for an all India Integrated Transport and Logistics Summit;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the aims/objectives thereof and the time by which it is likely to be held; and

(e) the steps taken to reduce logistics costs and bring down pollution levels by reducing congestion on roads?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.468 ANSWERED ON 6TH APRIL, 2017 ASKED BY KUNWAR HARIBANSH SINGH AND SHRI GAJANAN KIRTIKAR REGARDING MULTI-MODAL LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT POLICY.

(a) to (e) Yes Madam. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has undertaken an initiative for developing Logistics Parks at identified locations in partnership with State Governments and other stakeholders in a phased manner through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Further, with a view to giving an impetus to logistics development, the “India Integrated Logistics and Transport Summit” (IILTS) is scheduled to be held between 3rd to 5th May 2017 in New Delhi. The aim of the Summit is to engage with all the stakeholders like the State Governments, various Central Government agencies under the Ministries of Civil Aviation, Shipping and Railways, as also experts, Investors and private sector. The focus of the Summit will be on forging partnerships as well as coming out with policy initiatives with the aim of bringing about seamless freight movement in the country and thus lowering costs as well as reducing congestion and pollution.
