(a) whether the Government had a proposal to build
indigenously designed aircraft carrier;
(b) if so, the agencies involved in building such aircraft carrier;
(c) the amount required for building aircraft carrier; and
(d) the time by which such aircraft carrier is likely to be built?

(a) to (d): Government have approved the indigenous
construction of an Air Defence Ship (ADS) of approximately
37,500 Metric Tons at Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, for the
Indian Navy. The revised cost of the construction of the ADS
is Rs. 2880 crore. The construction of aircraft carrier is
likely to be completed by 2011-2012.
