Question : NAVIGABILITY OF NW-II



referring to the reply given to Unstarred Question Nos. 1315 on 3.3.1997 and 3393 on 17.3.97 and state:

(a) whether the depth of 2 m to make NW-II round the year navigable is maintained;

(b) if so, the details of movement of large vessels during 2001-2004;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the measures taken to ensure the minimum depth of the channel?

MINISTER OF SHIPPING, ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS(SHRI T.R. BAALU)

(a) In National Waterway No.II, depth of 2m between Dhubri and Neamati and 1.5m between Neamati and Dibrugarh is maintained for most part of the year.

(b) Details are given in annexure-I.

(c) Does not arise.

(d) The depth is maintained by dredging the channel coupled with bandalling during low water period i.e. between October/November and February/March.
