Question : TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR RURAL WOMEN



(a) the percentage participation of rural women in job oriented training programmes being run by the Government at rural level;

(b) the number and percentage of trainees bene- fitted from such training programmes;

(c) the number of schemes being implemented to make the rural women self reliant at present; and

(d) the extent to which the said job oriented schemes has been beneficial to such rural women in the country?

MINISTER OF STATE (IC) FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SHRI BANDARU DATTATREYA)

(a) to (d): Job Oriented Training Programmes for women under Ministry of Labour & Employment is provided through a network of 11 RVTIs (Regional Vocational Training Institutes) exclusively for women. These institutes cater to the training needs of all women (both urban & rural) having minimum qualification of 10th standard. To extend these programmes, the Govt. has approved 08 more new RVTIs in the states that do not have any RVTI at present.

Around 9000 women are being trained every year in long-term and short-term courses. Since inception, RVTIs have trained around 1,17,884 women till October, 2014.

Under State Sector, vocational training to women is provided through 1536 Industrial Training Ins- titutes (ITIs) for women/women wings with about 1,41,907 seats (covering both urban & rural areas).

Around 1,23,759 women are trained in ITIs (both Govt. & Private) every year.

In addition, 30% seats in other ITIs are reserved for women trainees.

About 10,000 Training Providers under Skill Deve- lopment Initiative Scheme (SDI) are available in the country covering the rural areas including women participation.

Around 12.6 lakh women have availed the benefit under SDI Scheme.

The training is being provided through Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) & Skill Development Initiative Scheme (SDI) under Modular Employable Skills.

The training courses in various skills under these schemes are beneficial to women to get wage / self employment.
