(a) whether the Government propose to develop fisheries in collaboration with the State Governments;

(b) if so. the details thereof;

(c) whether the Uttar Pradesh is also one of the State where this industry is likely to be developed; and

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI HUKUMDEO NARAYAN YADAV) :

(a) to (d) Government implements various schemes through the State Governments for development of inland and marine fisheries and welfare of fishermen. These schemes include Motorization of Traditional Crafts, Development of Freshwater and Brackish water Aquaculture, Establishment of Fishing Harbours and Fish Landing Centres, Welfare Programme for Fishermen, Fisheries Training and Extension including human resource development and strengthening of database and information networking for fishery sector. Central assistance under these schemes is extended on receipt of viable proposals from the State Governments including Uttar Pradesh. During the IX Plan and 2002-03, Central assistance of Rs. 1858.57 lakh and Rs. 134.26 lakh has been released to Government of UP under various schemes for the development of fishery sector and welfare of fishermen.
