Question : Research in AYUSH Drugs

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the ongoing research for developing new drugs in AYUSH by the various Government institutions;

(b) whether any tie up has been made with CSIR or other apex institutions for development and marketing of drugs related to diabetes; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a): The Research Councils under Ministry of AYUSH have undertaken research activities for new drugs for Mental Retardation, Improvement of Quality of life in Cancer patients, Geriatric Health, Wound Healing, Dengue, Diabetes, Bronchial Asthma, Filariasis, Ovarian Cancer, Hepato-Protective activity as an adjuvant for Antitubercular treatment, Non Alcoholic fatty liver Disease (NAFLD), Chronic Kidney diseases, Migraine, Hypertension, Vitiligo, Malaria, JE virus, Leishmaniasis donovani & Rota virus and E-coli bacteria.

Moreover, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has supported a number of projects for developing new drugs from medicinal plant sources in different government institutions, e.g. anti-leishmanial drug from ajwain oil at Jadavpur University, Kolkata; anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory drug from Albizzialebbeck and Solarium xanthocarpum at VP Chest Institute, Delhi; Bovine Mastitis drug jointly at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, 1CAR-CIRG, Mathura and ICAR-NDRI, Karnal; management of female fertility in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome at M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara; pharmacological and cosmetic effects against ultraviolet radiation induced skin damage at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, etc.

(c): Does not arise, in view of answer to (b) above.
