Question : THERMAL AND HYDRO POWER GENERATION



(a) whether the Government are contemplating to improve the position of thermal and hydro power generation keeping in view the requirement of power in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether sanction has been accorded to some new power projects in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details of these projects, State-wise?

(a) & (b) : For the Ninth Plan, a capacity addition of 40245.2 MW was planned. However, during the mid-term review, conducted in July, 1999, a capacity addition of 28097.2 MW was considered feasible. This comprises of 8399.2 MW of hydro, 18818 MW of thermal and 880 MW of nuclear projects.

The details of the actual capacity addition during first three years of the Ninth Plan is as under :-

1997-98 3226 MW	1998-99 4267 MW	1999-2000 4507 MW
(c) & (d) : In addition to the capacity addition of 28097.2 MW during 9th Plan, the list of projects which have been sanctioned (i.e. investment approvals given) and whose benefits would accrue during the Tenth and Eleventh Plan is annexed.
