(a) & (b): In the 19th Livestock Census 2012, the number of stray cattle in the country was 52.87 Lakhs. In the 20th Livestock Census 2019, the number of stray cattle declined to 50.21 lakhs. However as per the Livestock Census 2019, the number of stray cattle in Uttar Pradesh have increased as compared to Livestock Census of 2012. The district-wise details of number of Stray Cattle of Uttar Pradesh provided by Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAH&D) is given at Annexure.
(c) to (e): Under the Revamped Operational Guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) effective from Kharif 2020, the States may consider providing add-on coverage for crop loss due to attack by notified wild animals wherever the risk is perceived to be substantial and identifiable. Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) also provide financial assistance to the States/Union Territories under
Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Development of Wildlife Habitats, “Project Tiger” and “Project Elephant” for management of wildlife and its habitats including ex-gratia relief for crop damage caused by wild animals as per the cost norms prescribed by the concerned state governments.The state governments also make provision to compensate farmers for the crop losses due to wild animals as per extant law of the respective states.
