Question : EXPANSION OF MANGALORE AIRPORT



(a) the extent of land required by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to take up the Mangalore Airport Expansion Project;

(b) the extent of land without any encumbrances provided to the AAI by the Government of Karnataka;

(c) the estimated cost of the above Airport Expansion Project;

(d) the amount spent so far; and

(e) by time by which the Mangalore Airport Expansion Project is likely to be completed?

(a) & (b): Airports Authority of India (AAI) has the requirement of approximately 200 acres of land for construction of new runway at Mangalore airport. The State Government of Karnataka has been requested to hand over the required land free from all the encumberances to the AAI. However, no action has yet been taken by the State Government in this regard.

(c), (d) & (e): The estimated cost of construction of the new runway at Mangalore airport would be Rs.70 crores approximately. AAI has paid Rs.0.50 crores to the State Government as initial deposit for acquisition of the required land. Rs.1.48 crores has been spent on expansion and modification of the existing arrival block of the terminal building. The entire work is likely to be completed within three years from the date of commencement of the work.
