Question : FILM INSTITUTES



(a) whether the Government proposes to accord the Centre of National Excellence status to premier film institutes in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the institutes identified for the purpose, along with the reasons therefor; (

(c) whether this measure would enable the institutes to draw a road map to address the growing needs of media and entertainment industry; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING, ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE AND MINISTER OF STATE FOR THE MINISTRY OF PARLIAMENTARY AFFAIRS (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR).

(a) to (d) Government proposes to declare the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune and Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata to be the Institutions of national importance through the proposed ’The National Institutes of Film, Television and Allied Studies Bill, 2014’. This would enable recognition of the courses being conducted by these Institutes and make them equivalent to recognized courses being offered by other Universities or Institutions established or incorporated under any other Law. This initiative would enable these premier Institutions to achieve their objectives in an effective manner, reposition them selves as world class film & television institutes, broad base their training activities and conduct research activities thereby addressing the growing needs of media and entertainment industry.
