Question : PIPED DRINKING WATER SUPPLY



(a) the details of the habitations and percentage of people covered under piped drinking water supply and the number of habitations to be covered thereunder, State/ UT-wise;

(b) the total funds allocated/released and incurred under the said plan during each of the last three years and the current year; State/UT-wise;

(c) the total funds likely to be incurred to achieve the targets to provide piped drinking water State/UT-wise, so far; and

(d) the time by which the piped supply of drinking water to the households in all habitations is likely to be provided?

(a) The details of the habitations and percentage of people covered under Piped drinking water supply State/UT-wise are at Annexure-I.

(b) The details of the total funds allocated/released and incurred for all schemes including piped water supply schemes under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) during each of the last three years and the current year; State/UT-wise are at Annexure-II.

(c) No estimates regarding funds to be incurred to achieve the targets to provide piped drinking water to all rural population has been made .

(d) Drinking Water supply is a State subject. Under the NRDWP, the State Governments are vested with the powers to plan, execute and implement drinking water supply schemes. However, as per the Strategic Plan prepared by the Ministry for the rural drinking water sector for the period 2011-2022, the interim goal till 2017, is to cover 50% of all rural households with piped water supply, and 35% of rural households with household connections. By 2022, the goal is to cover 90% rural households with piped water supply, with 80% having household connections.
