Question : Bull Mother Farms


(a) whether it is true that there are as many as 172 bull mother farms in the country run by both the Centre and the State Governments and, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether these bull mother farms are currently in dilapidated condition;

(c) whether the Government has identified 50 bull mother farms to strengthen its infrastructure and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government is considering to establish Kamdhenu centres across the country, if so, the details thereof along with the locations identified so far; and

(e) whether it is also true that there is an absence of quality bulls and indigenous cow breed as well as lack of basic amenities like poor condition of shed and other equipment required for the maintenance of cattle and farms and if so, the steps taken by the Government to strengthen the existing infrastructure?

Answer given by the minister

(a) to (c) Under Rashtriya Gokul Mission, all the bull mother farms available with State Governments and State Implementing Agencies/ State Livestock Development Boards are covered for modernization and strengthening of existing infra structure. Details of the bull mother farms available with State Governments and State Implementing Agencies/ State Livestock Development Boards is given at Annexure-I.

(d) Government is undertaking establishment of two National Kamdhenu Breeding Centres in the Country. An amount of Rs.25.00 Crore has been released to Madhya Pradesh for establishment of National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre in Itarsi, Hoshangabad in Northern region of India and Rs 25 crore has been released to Andhra Pradesh for establishment of National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre in Chintaladevi, Nellore in Southern region of India.
(e) In order to complement and supplement efforts made by the State for strengthening infrastructure available at bull mother farms Government of India has undertaken following steps:
i) Replacement of poor genetic merit stock with high genetic merit bull mothers
ii) Modernization and strengthening of existing cattle sheds
iii) Replacement of agricultural implements for in-house fodder production.
