Question : Coir Training Institutes

(a) the number and details of the training institutes of Coir Board functioning in the country at present, State-wise including Uttar Pradesh;

(b) the number of beneficiaries of each training institute during each of the last three years, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of such training institutes in the country including Uttar Pradesh; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Coir Board is having the following Training Institutes for imparting training on Coir Processing and value addition of the coir products.
(i) National Coir Training and Design Centre, Kalavoor, Alleppey, Kerala
(ii) Regional Extension Centre, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

Apart from this, Coir Board organize various training programmes through the following Regional Offices and Sub Regional Offices of the Board in association with coir co-operative societies, units etc.

(i) Pollachi & Singampunari in Tamil Nadu
(ii) Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh
(iii) Bhubaneswar in Odisha
(iv) Kalavoor, Attingal & Kannur in Kerala
(v) Bengaluru in Karnataka
(vi) Guwahati in Assam

(vii) Sindhudurg in Maharashtra
(viii) Hyderabad in Telengana
(ix) Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands
(x) Kavarathi in Lakshadweep Islands


At present, no separate training institute of the Board is functioning in the State of Uttar Pradesh.

(b): Coir Board is providing training on Coir Processing and value addition of the coir products for self employment to rural artisans in coir producing regions under Skill Development Programmes such as Mahila Coir Yojana and Value Added products manufacturing training programmes. Details of number of beneficiaries trained during the last three years State-wise is given in Annexure-I.

(c) & (d): Presently there is no proposal to set up new training institute including in the State of Uttar Pradesh. During the last year Coir Board has already started three livelihood Business Incubation Centres at Bhubaneswar, Rajahmundry and Thanajavur for providing modern production process and technologies to encourage the prospective entrepreneurs.
