Question : GENERIC PESTICIDES



(a) whether Generic Pesticides offer Indian farmers time tested and economically viable measures to control farm pests;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to promote the use of generic pesticides among the farmers; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): Yes, Madam. Generic pesticides offer economically viable control of pests if used judiciously as per approved label claim. The Registration Committee, constituted under Section 5 of the Insecticides Act, 1968, has registered 225 pesticides including generic pesticides. These pesticides are used to control insects, pests, diseases and weeds of different crops.

(c) & (d): Government of India is promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to control pests, which involves a combination of various methods of pest control like cultural, mechanical, biological, use of biopesticides and need based judicious use of chemical pesticides including generic pesticides.
