(a) & (b) In the National Policy on Agriculture announced in July, 2000 by the
Government of India, private sector participation is proposed to be promoted through
contract farming and land leasing arrangements to allow accelerated technology
transfer, capital inflow and assured markets, for crop production. It is also proposed to
develop lease markets for increasing the size of holdings by making legal provision for
giving private lands on lease for cultivation and agri-business.
