Question : AIIMS, Madurai

(a) the time by which All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Madurai is likely to be fully functional;
(b) whether any schedule for commencement and completion of infrastructure work (including civil construction) and student admission has been declared;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government has declared commencement of AIIMS at other places in the country along with the AIIMS, Madurai or subsequent to it; and
(e) if so, the details of announcement of dates of commencement of all such AIIMS and the amount spent so far on such AIIMS and the present status thereof?

(a) to (c) The Executing Agency for pre-investment work of AIIMS Madurai has been appointed and the pre-investment activities are completed substantially. As per loan agreement with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), which is partially funding the project, the target date of completion is October 2026.

Meanwhile, this Ministry, in consultation with the Government of Tamil Nadu, has identified a temporary campus at Government Medical College, Ramanathapuram for starting MBBS classes.
(d) & (e) Details in respect of 11 new AIIMS, announced along with the AIIMS, Madurai or subsequent to it, under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) with their date of commencement, amount spent so far and present status, is at Annexure-I.
