STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 91 TO BE ANSWERED ON 26.07.2021 ASKED BY SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV AND SHRI CHANDRA SEKHAR SAHU REGARDING “ESI HOSPITALS”
(a) to (f) Subsequent to increase in number of beneficiaries due to expansion of ESI Scheme in newer geographical areas since 2015, efforts are constantly made by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to strengthen medical care infrastructure in the country for providing better medical services in the vicinity of beneficiaries. In this regard, some of the initiatives are as under:-
i. 7 New ESI hospitals with a total of 1160 beds have been commissioned.
ii. Approval has been granted for setting up of 50 new ESI Hospitals across the country with 4990 beds.
iii. Bed strength of other existing ESI hospitals has been enhanced.
iv. Approval has been granted for 92 new ESI Dispensaries.
v. 68 new Dispensary Cum Branch Offices (DCBOs) have been made operational across the country.
vi. Ceiling for transfer of funds to State Governments has been enhanced from Rs.2150/- to Rs.3000/- per Insured Person (IP) per annum to improve and strengthen medical service delivery. This includes Rs.200 per IP per annum under Project Implementation Plan (PIP) for incurring expenditure on equipment, medical manpower, building infrastructure and strengthening of other ancilliary facilities.
Considering beneficiaries’ needs and on ground feasibility, ESIC from time to time, has revised its norms for setting up of ESI hospital/dispensary in accordance with minimum number of Insured Persons population required within specified radius of a location.
ESIC has allowed beneficiaries to avail medical benefits directly from ESI empaneled hospitals in case there are no direct medical healthcare facilities available within a radius of 10 K.M. from the residence of the Insured Person. Further, Insurance Medical Practitioner (IMP) are engaged at suitable locations where ESI dispensary is not available.
ESIC has empaneled 2270 tie-up hospitals and 1264 Insurance Medical Practitioners (IMPs) across the country. The state-wise details of such hospitals and IMPs are Annexure.
Contract agreement with tie-up hospitals and IMPs are entered into by Regional offices of ESIC based on a standard framework
In addition, ESIC has collaborated with Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) for providing medical services through their empanelled hospitals in 152 districts in the country.
