Question : LWE Affected Districts

(a) whether the number of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts have gone down after 2014;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the incidents of violence have also gone down since 2015 and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the details of assistance provided by the Government to LWE affected districts since 2014 especially in Aurangabad and Gaya districts of Bihar, year-wise; and

(e) whether the magnitude of assistance has gone down during the last few years and if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION *130 FOR 26/07/2022 REGARDING “LWE AFFECTED DISTRICTS”


(a) to (c) Yes Sir, the districts reporting Left Wing Extremism (LWE) violence has come down from 70 in 2014 to 46 in 2021. Incidents of LWE violence have also significantly reduced from 1091 in 2014 to 509 incidents in 2021.

(d) & (e) Since 2014, there has been a substantial increase in the magnitude of assistance provided to LWE affected states by the Government of India under various schemes of MHA and specific schemes for LWE areas of the other line ministries. Approximately Rs 6578 Crore was released under various MHA schemes from FY 2014-15 to FY 2021-22 as compared to Rs 2181 Crore released from FY 2006-07 to FY 2013-14 for LWE management. Details of assistance through specific schemes for LWE affected areas and funds release by MHA are at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.
