Question : MODERNIZATION OF BONGAIGAON TPS



(a) whether the Government has contemplated to modernize/renovate the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (BTPS), Salakati, Assam;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has envisaged a special package for speedy rural electrification of North Eastern States, particularly in Assam on priority basis; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) : Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (BTPS) Units – 3&4 (4x60 MW) has been identified for Renovation & Modernization (R&M)/Life Extension (LE) works during the 10th Plan. Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has sanctioned Rs.2.27 Crores for Residual Life Assessment (RLA)/LE study of Bongaigaon TPS in Assam.

(c) & (d) : The Government of India has decided launch a massive programme for rural electrification, namely, `Rural Electricity Infrastructure and Household Electrification` from the year 2005-06 with the objective of covering 1.25 lakh villages in five years. The programme envisages electrification of all un-electrified villages and provide access to electricity to all households in all the States including Assam and North Eastern States.
