Question : Sale of Sugar

(a) whether the cane price payable and arrears have been calculated on the basis of Fair and Remunerative Price which is the minimum price fixed by the Centre to be paid to farmers and if so, the details there of indicating the total amount of sugarcane dues paid and pending as on date;
(b) whether the Government is considering to adopt a differential pricing of sugar for bulk buyers and Public Distribution System (PDS) and if so, the details thereof indicating the percentage share of bulk buyers and PDS in total sale of sugar; and
(c) whether the Government proposes to encourage production of Gur/Jaggery inview of its health benefits in comparison to white sugar and to assist the sugarcane farmers and if so, the details thereof?

(a): The cane price payable and arrears are calculated on the basis of FRP fixed by the Central Government except in case of 5 States viz. Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand where cane price payable and arrears are also calculated on the basis of State Advised Price (SAP) fixed by them. As on 28.07.2016, cane dues of Rs.53,091 crores have been paid and Rs.2942 crores and Rs.5696 crores are pending on FRP and SAP basis respectively.
