(b) The findings of each of the inquiry commission;

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.378 ASKED BY SHRI CHINTAMAN WANAGA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 22.03.2001 REGARDING INQUIRY COMMISSION ON TRAIN ACCIDENTS

(a) to (d): Three Inquiry Commissions were set up to inquire into the causes of train accidents during the period 1998-99 to 2000-01 (upto 28.2.2001). The details of these train accidents are as follows:-

Garg Commission under the Chairmanship of Justice G.C. Garg set up to enquire into Khanna-Chawapail accident has not submitted its report so far. The Judicial inquiry into the Khanna accident is in progress. Ray Commission under the Chairmanship of Justice G.N. Ray set up to enquire into the Gaisal tragedy has been recently submitted its final report which is under examination. As per the findings of the Ray Commission, Gaisal accident occurred due to “Failure of Railway Staff`

The recently tragedy at Sarai Banjara-Sadoogarh will be enquired into by a Judicial Commission under the Chairmanship of Justice S. Saghir Ahmed. The notification of Judicial Commission for Sadhoogarh accident has been issued.

Concerned departments have been asked to study recommendations made by Ray Commission. Accepted recommendations would be implemented to avoid such recurrence.

1. Collision of 2903 Up Under investigation by Garg Golden Temple Mail and 3152 Commission. Dn. Jammu Tawi Express between Khanna-Chawapail section of Ambala Division of Northern Railway on 26.11.1998.
2. Collision of 5610 Up Failure of Railway Staff. Awadh-Assam Express and 4056 Dn. Brahmaputra Mail at Gaisal station of Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway on 02.08.1999.
3. Collision of derailed Dn. Judicial Commission set up. Ajitwal-New Bongaigaon Foodgrain Special Goods train and 3005 Up Howrah-Amritsar Mail between Sarai Banjara- Sadhoogarh section of Ambala Division of Northern Railway on 02.12.2000.
