Question : NHs in National Parks and Sanctuaries

(a) the number and the present status of National Highways passing through National Parks and Sanctuaries across the country, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government has received complaints regarding a large number of wild animals found dead on highways; and

(c) if so, the steps taken by the Government for the disposal of the said complaints?

(a) The details of the National Highways (NHs) passing through the National Parks and Sanctuaries are given at Annexure. Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process and they are kept in traffic worthy condition depending upon the availability of funds and inter se priority.

(b) to (c) Information regarding wildlife kills on National Highways is received through various sources occasionally. However, Ministry is not in receipt of any specific complaint regarding large number of wild animals found dead on highways. Data on wildlife kills is not maintained by Ministry. However, adequate measures are taken while granting clearance in wildlife areas.
