Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS
(SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI)

(a)& (b): Yes, Madam. The Ministry has launched a liveability index which will rank the country’s 116 major cities on the basis of the quality of life they offer. The objective of developing these standards is to generate a liveability index and rate cities against these standards to facilitate a competitive environment amongst cities that will result in systematic improvement in the quality of life, the cities offer to their citizens. The framework includes 79 indicators (57 Core Indicators and 22 Supporting Indicators). These indicators are organised in 15 distinct ‘Categories’, designed for measuring various institutional, social, economic and physical aspects that affect the quality of life of citizens and determine the ‘Liveability’ of a city. These indicators are also strongly linked to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and help in tracking and implementing SDGs. A detailed booklet is available on following web link:
