STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (b) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED Q.NO. 28 FOR ANSWER ON 04.02.2020 REGARDING JAN AUSHADHI KENDRAS
(a) With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). Under this scheme, dedicated outlets known as Janaushadhi Kendras are opened to provide generic medicines.
As on 29.01.2020, 6072 Janaushadhi Kendras are opened in the country. The medicine under PMBJP is priced on the principle of a maximum of 50% of the average price of top three branded medicines. Therefore, the cost of the Jan Aushadhi Medicines is cheaper at least by 50% and in some cases, by 80% to 90% of the market price of branded medicines. PMBJP has drastically brought down the prices of quality medicines and making medicines available within the reach of large section of population, especially the poor.
(b) Detailed list of Janaushadhi Kendras functional across the country, including Odisha is enclosed as Annexure. As on 29.01.2020, 197 Janaushadhi Kendras are functional in the State of Odisha.
