Question : CLOSURE OF PRIVATE SUGAR MILLS IN BIHAR



(a) whether a large number of sugar mills in public as well as private sector in Bihar are lying closed;

(b) if so, the numbers thereof alongwith the date since when these are lying closed;

(c) whether the Government has identified mills for revival;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the mill-wise amount required for revival of those mills?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. 18 sugar mills of Bihar (15 in the Public Sector and 3 in the Private Sector) are lying closed. The mill-wise detail, including date of closure is stated at Annexure to this reply.

(c), (d) & (e): It is the responsibility of the entrepreneur to take steps to reopen/revive sick sugar mills.
