(a) Science Express is a flagship initiative of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India for popularising science across India. It is a unique mobile science exhibition mounted on a 16-coach, AC train, travelling across India since 2007. During the last eight years, Science Express has extensively covered different areas across India, wherever broad-gauge rail tracks are available and halt is feasible. During its entire journey since the launch of its 1st phase on 30 October 2007, it has so far covered 1,26,000 km with 405 halts across India.
The theme of the Science Express special train in the current phase is on Climate Change covering the major cities of India and the train will cover 64 cities in 20 states as per the feasibility given by the Indian Railways.
